The Managing Committee of NBI is comprised of renowned philanthropists and social workers who are also managing number of other organizations. Under NBI we all work synergistically; so that the people of Pakistan prosper and attain their rightful place in the comity of nations and contribute towards international peace, prosperity and happiness of humanity:


Syed Arifullah Hussaini was born at Karachi on 23 April 1961. He studied his primary and middle grades at Happy Home School, Karachi. In 1973 got admitted to Cadet College Petaro in 8th Class and completed his SSC in 1976. Subsequently, completed HSC in 1978 and joined Pakistan Navy on 16 January 1979 as cadet. He completed his basic naval training at Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. Earned commissioned as Sub Lieutenant in the Operations Branch of Pakistan Navy in June 1981. He commanded Pakistan coast (COMCOAST), Karachi (COMKAR) and the Pakistan Fleet (COMPAK). After retirement realizing the dire need to create harmony and tolerance in Pakistani society and to create a secure and prosperous future for people of Pakistan, he has created a society with the help of likeminded colleagues namely “Nation Building Initiative” i.e NBI (2018).


Senior Vice President
Mushtaq Chhapra is a Businessman and Industrialist (part time) Director in CBM Plastics, Transpak Pvt Ltd N Coastal Converters. He has passion for doing good and charity work is now become focus of life. He is also board member of The Kidney Centre and chairman executive committee of Patients Aid Foundation. Mr. Chhapra is Director n Co-Founder at The Citizens Foundation.


Vice President
Syed Perwez Shahid was commissioned in the Pakistan Army as an Infantry Officer in October 1969, with top honors including the coveted Sword of Honor, President’s Gold Medal and Norman Gold Medal. He has served in various command, staff and instructional appointments. He has served as Director General Joint Staff Headquarters and Commanded a Corps. He is a graduate of Staff College Quetta, National Defense College Islamabad, US Army Infantry School and US Army Staff College. General Shahid has attended Executive Courses at Harvard and Stanford Universities (USA). He retired as Corps Commander in April 2005. From June 2005 to May 2008 he served as CEO of The Citizens Foundation (TCF), an NGO providing quality education to the less privileged in Pakistan. In 2010, he was appointed as the first MD of Zulfikarabad Development Authority in Sindh Government, established to build a new city. He was the first CEO of Rotary Literacy Initiative in Pakistan. Currently he is adviser with a leading Infrastructure and Engineering Consultancy Company, Osmani & Company.

Dr Junaid Ahmad is a Chairman of National Management Consultants, NEC Consultants (Pvt) Ltd., Aptech Pakistan Operations and Vital Information Services (Pvt) Ltd. NEC, VIS and Aptech are market leaders in their respective sectors in the Country. A researcher, academician, management consultant and an accomplished author. Has completed over 1400 research and consulting assignments over the last 32 years. Has helped setup 200 projects in the Country. He is author of four books in the last four years.

Mr. Muhammad Siddique Sheikh is the Chairman of Progressive Group of Companies, having experience of business and industry since 1957. He is a trustee and Board Member of The Indus Health Network (IHN). He is a promoter of free Health Care service providers like Sindh Institute of Urology & Transplantation (SIUT), Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust (LRBT), SINA Health & Education Welfare Trust (SHET), Children Cancer Foundation, (CCF), Patients Welfare Association, (PWA), Child Aid Association and Cardiac Surgery Unit (Civil Hospital), Karachi. He is a promoter of free education service providers like The Education Foundation (TEF), The Ilm Foundation (TIF), Jamiat Talim-ul-Quran (JTQ), Committee for Monitoring and Improvement of Government Schools (CMIS), Professional Education Foundation (PEF). He has been the Advisor on social sector of The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI).


Finance Secretary
Saleem Ahmed Laliwala is a Partner at A.M. Laliwala & Co. (Chartered Accountants) and Director at Finosys (Private) Limited. He is also a Director at Foundation of Computing & Sciences. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant. He Specialized In Audit, Taxation and Computerized Accounting Software’s. He has experience in social activities.


General Secretary
Dr. Khalid Mahmood is a General Secretary of Nation Building Initiative. He has served as Asst. Director at JPMC. He also performed his duties as Deputy Director and Asst. Professor Al Ibrahim Eye Hospital (ISRA University Hospital). He is leading Consultant & Director at Khalid Eye Clinic. He is founder member of Patients’ Aid Foundation, Care and Kindness Society and Eye Sight Trust.

Dr. Nuzhat Faruqui is the first ever internationally trained woman urologist in Pakistan. She is presently working as an Assistant Professor and service line chief of Urology and nephrology at Aga Khan University. She is the Hon. General Secretary of ULPHAT welfare organization since 2009. She has worked in various disasters i.e. floods, earthquake, drought, heat wave and bomb blast to name a few. She has been recently awarded Tamgha e Imtiaz by the president of Pakistan for her public service.

Dr Abdul Bari Khan is the Chairman & Professor of Cardiac Surgery Dow University of Health Sciences CEO The Indus Health Network. He has a long history of community service and philanthropy geared towards social upliftment. Dr. Bari completed his medical education from The DOW Medical College in 1986 and received a fellowship in Cardiac Surgery from The College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan in 1995. Passionately driven towards social welfare activities even as a medical student, Dr. Bari became an active member of The DOW Medical Patients’ Welfare Association (PWA) and soon its focal person for the PWA blood bank. In 1986, after witnessing a high-intensity bomb blast in Saddar that resulted in many casualties, Dr. Bari came to the realization that the casualty section in The Civil Hospital was too small to deal with crisis emergencies and decided to revamp and expand the unit.

Mr. Saleem Mughal is an advisory member of Hamdard Shoura. He is a renowned media person and worked at Pakistan Television – Karachi Center in different intellectual productions. He is also a writer and author of different articles and stories.

Mr. Rashid Abdullah is one of TCF’s Co-Founders and first Chairman of the Board of Directors of TCF. He is a leading businessman and a philanthropist at heart. He serves as Director on the boards of several companies associated with the IBL Group including The Searle Company Limited, International Brands Limited and IBL HealthCare Limited.
